Network port cat6
Just had a new Cat-6 port installed in another bedroom, wanted to use router in that room as wifi is really weak.
does an engineer need to come and make the port live?
can I have 2 live ports working at one time?

Re: Network port cat6
Do you have FTTP (fibre to your house?). If so, the BT installed ONT (optical network termination) can have the Smarthub or other router/modem connected to it by any reasonable length of Cat5e or Cat 6 ethernet cable. If you've just had a new Cat 6 port installed presumably it's connected back to somewhere. If this isn't your ONT then you need to connect the ONT to that "somewhere".
If you have FTTC (fibre just to the street cabinet) then your broadband service will be carried to your house via a standard copper cable and will terminate in a BT master socket. That has to be connected to your Smarthub using an RJ11 cable and NOT an ethernet cable

Re: Network port cat6
Sorry, no idea what you mean by a new Cat6 port installed.
An Ethernet port is just one end of what is effectively an extension lead. It must be connected to another port elsewhere. You then use this 'extension' lead to connect 2 devices together.
