@pddco

Yes that's what the (latest) Openreach guy said.

I don't understand the technology but in basic terms we live in a village that has some full fibre Broadband but we do not. we  still have copper wire into the house  into a new master socket which was installed by  open reach 6 months ago, from a " cable" that comes across the front of the house from a telegraph pole, the green cabinet is over the road from the BT Exchange which is 100 yards up the street from our house.

@arwen

Sounds similar to my setup with fibre to cabinet, then copper to house, but my 'cabinet' is way down in the village about 1.2km away!

Problem still persists!! Just found an interesting article in The Register dated 9 Dec 2016 and it sounds exactly the same as our problems.  'Busted Windows 8, 10 update blamed for breaking Brits' DHCP   BT,  Plusnet subscribers told to reboot or use static IP addresses' 9 Dec 2016 at 19:52, Gavin Clarke.  It would seem that it is a Miscrosoft/BT fault.  Maybe this is now our problem too. Their solution was the following commands run one after the other

netsh winsock reset catalog

netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

It might work but I am not competent enough to do this.

@Groo

Firstly I hope you're enjoying your week away from BT problems.

The engineer from OpenReach arrived here promptly yesterday with no notes or details of the fault, except "internet dropping!"

After explaining the story yet again, he checked the line and lo & behold detected a Bridge Tap 70 metres from the master socket. As the crow flies that should have been the telegraph pole, but out of curiosity, he checked the loft where the copper pair enters the house, and found another Mk1 master socket and 70 metres of wound up cable, pole side of the soclet. Within the extra master socket was a blown capacitor. The Mk1 socket and excess cable were removed and the line thoroughly checked and found to be perfectly stable at 36Mbps.

That didn't stop the problem with the Internet, and the engineer went away perplexed, but convinced the problem was the router.

This morning I did a factory reset on the router. Not with the reset button at the back, but using set router manager option. Problem gone, at least FTTB!!!

Hope this helps.

Following Open reach engineer visit last Friday & replacement of " thing" at exchange Internet has dropped twice so was about to report again to BT when I saw last post. I have done the same with the hub manager yesterday & up to now no further drop. so fingers crossed.

Incidentally  much searching i found  an e@mail address  for BT *********which may be worth trying for complaints. The previous 3 e@mail addresses I had "bounced back" I like to e@mail complaints so I  have a written record as I can't record calls.

Hope everything is still working for you.  We are still in limbo. Engineer 4 arrived yesterday and I explained the problem to him before he started looking at cables etc.  He spent some time reconfiguring the router which he said had not been set  up for our situation.  He then went to my computer which is upstairs and could not get the internet even though the disc was showing blue.  He tried and tried and eventually succeeded.  However when I tried it didn't work.  This morning we are back with intermittent internet and I cannot get it at all on my computer.  There will now be yet another call to BT.  The mini hub they sent is useless because we do not have a very good mobile here either.  Wish me luck.

Well, having had a nice week away from hub, broadband & WiFi problems, I came back & it did it's thing again. I then wondered if anyone at BT was taking any notice of the Openreach guy's report in which he said they needed to 'cease & re-provide'.  So I phoned BT this morning & actually got to speak to a human who I asked if they were going to follow his recommendation; she looked into it & explained that unless something in a report is flagged, they don't know about it, fair point as I'm sure they can't just keep reading all the reports for everyone. She also noticed that the 'open' complaint wasn't getting anywhere because it had never been passed on by the Guide who started it. Sigh.

Anyway, cutting a long story short, she put me through to another relevant person & they have initiated the sequence to get the 'cease & re-provide' done, which should be within about 3 days.

So everyone please cross your fingers & toes that this 7 week saga may be finally put to rest!

Hello,

I have just posted the same problem you had been experiencing regarding wifi dropouts. I am interested how you got on with the BT engineer and if your problem was sorted? I've had BT engineers out many times as well as Openreach and my exact same issue has still not been resolved.

If yours is can you give me any ideas what they did to fix it?

thanks

@Orange99

Mine not fixed yet, but they haven't yet done the 'cease & re-provide' even though it's more than 3 days since they said they'd do it within 3 days. I'll give them the rest of the week then get back onto them.

Next time an Openreach engineer comes, tell him about the supposed cure which was recommended by my Openreach engineer.

I'll let you know (a) when BT have done what they said they'd do, and (b) if it worked.

It's like the Neverending Story!
