@SludgeIsland

Ah, it was the same with @Groo  . I think I have learnt something then about FTTC changeover to DV.

I had FTTP installed a few months back and of course was migrated to  DV.
My old redundant Master socket remained but still had dial tone on there albeit with a different phone number.

It would seem on FTTC when the phone is moved to DV, dial tone (and presume line current?) is removed from the old landline.

Anyway, doesn’t help you. But interesting nontheless if true..

Re: New hub keeps losing wifi connections, even though blue lights lit

Todays update.  After speaking to the nice lady from BT on Monday, and awaiting her callback at 12.00 yesterday, lo and behold... no one called me back.  Having had to reboot the router  three times that morning to try to get some work done, I phoned BT and spoke to a man from the same call centre.  He advised me that there was an engineer coming on Wednesday between 8am - 1pm.   We discussed that I had already had four visits from OR engineers and one from Qube, and the inherent fault with the BT SmartHub. He cancelled today's appointment.

After a discussion with his manager, he suggested sending me an EE SmartHub Plus to try.  Apparently different from the BT SmartHub in many ways, including manufacturer and internal stuff!  I would get a text later in the day when it had been dispatched.  Willing to give this a try, I accepted the offer.   Imagine my surprise when I got a text an hour later advising me of an engineer visit on Thursday (followed by several more SMS to the same effect!).  No mention so far of the EE SmartHub Plus, though.

Two more router reboots whilst typing this update. I am going to attempt to call BT again with a view to ditching them and trying VodaFone and giving a their SuperHub a try - and saving money, preserving my sanity, and lowering my blood pressure!   BT can try to sue me for the early termination of my contract.

Personally I’d wait for the EE hub. I may be mistaken but think it also has  the latest WiFi standard too. Not that you need it. And at least it may finally sort the issue out.
And may then also be the solution for @Groo
I mean you tried another non BT router ( was it the TP link?) and that seemed to work ok. But without the DV. So the outlook’s  promising.

Also, why not go back to that router while waiting for the EE one and use WiFi calling on your mobile?

@pddco

I had to give the TP-Link router back - I only borrowed it from a friend! 🙄 Just been assured that the EE SmartHub Plus is on its way.  I will make do with the 4G mini-hub in the meantime for internet.  Fingers crossed! 🤞 @Groo and @Niltechy  I'll keep you posted on this.

Also advised to go ahead with the OR engineer visit just to strengthen the case.

Re the DV, we have a lot of friends where we used to live who will only call on a landline number.  TBH I would get rid of it and save even more money if it wasn't for that!

@SludgeIsland

Sounds promising! Hope it works, but be careful they don't start charging you a fortune for having an EE hub 😀

I've been looking into a couple of other suppliers but they all seem to be full fibre & not interested in FTTC customers. We do have a local company, which I will investigate further before my BT contract runs out but for them I need to be in sight of one of their masts & I have the feeling I'm not. They will come out and check for free though.

Re: New hub keeps losing wifi connections, even though blue lights lit

I have just spoken to an elderly friend who lives north of Aberdeen and guess what? She uses BT for phone and broadband and has the same problem as all of us.  So it is no use BT implying that not many have this problem.

Yes, BT don't want to admit they've screwed up 🙂

Re: New hub keeps losing wifi connections, even though blue lights lit

@Groo

I have only read half of this thread, I lost the will to live so did not read the rest of the thread so I am unsure if you have done this.

I noticed that you said that your Smarthub was connected to your electrical supply by the use of an extension cable.

Have you tried plugging the Smarthub directly in to electrical socket without using the extension cable and preferably into a different electrical socked than it is presently plugged into?

@gg30340

You aren't the only one who has lost the will to live.  Thread wouldn't be so long if BT got their act together.

Good suggestion though, but unfortunately the sockets in this house are not in logical places & the hub would be a long way from the laptop etc., plus the cable from the master socket would not be long enough to reach the hub.
