Re: Router Upgrade from BT SmartHub 2 to a different one

Go to solution

Hi @gg30340,

Thanks for your reply 😊.

Oh right I did put links to re-direct you to Amazon UK website, but I didn't know about post links on the BT Community now I do thanks to @NeilO
🤣 anyway that TP-Link one is a VDSL modem / router, I'll PM you the links if you want me too?

Forgot to also add that I'm after a router that then signal all across my house, my home isn't huge mansion or anything it's just a 3 bedroom house council house I do not want boosters. The house is only built in the 1950's any I want a VDSL router that excellent for signal.

@TimCurtis thanks for the advice 😁 like what I was saying to @gg30340 I'm basically after a router that can pretty much do everything with a perfect signal etc.

@Keith_Beddoe that's the first router that I was looking too buy, yes I do want dual-band wireless. Also want IPv6 as-well Keith mate 🙂.

Right I'll tell you what @Keith_Beddoe@gg30340 & @TimCurtis I want the perfect VDSL router to replace my current one (BT SmartHub 2) I want any of you 3 and including the rest of the BT Community too comment back I don't mind which brand. Like I said I'm willing to spend around from £50 - £200 (no more than £200)

@Anonymous

I'm certainlly happy to recommend the Asus DSL-AC68U which I've used for many years now & has been rock solid. It like many other third party modem/routers doesn't support G.Fast (UltraFast) so bear that in mind.

It's still available for less than £140 from atleast a couple of reputable vendors.

BTW I do wish you'd use a smaller , sensible font like 99.99% of other community members, so much easier to read especially on small screens.

Indeed, could you preferably please use the forum default font as your posts are very difficult to read

Hello @TimCurtis,

Thank you I'll have a look on Amazon, Currys | PC World & other retailer's too look for a deal etc. What about the TP-Link is that one no good or something?

I use this font and colour because I have eye problems, my PC is setup to see big text better for my eye and my S20 Ultra 5G Smartphone is set to big text. I do hope you understand. I barely can see the small font that you lot all use I'm sorry 😥 😭 😢.

@licquorice Please look up above, I've explained myself.

Re: Router Upgrade from BT SmartHub 2 to a different one

For £150 I installed a 3 disc Deco M5 mesh, Wi-Fi absolutely everywhere in a large, stone house.  I no longer use a HH - just the BT modem I was given years ago.  I would recommend the mesh method very strongly.

Hello @gspearson,

I am thankful your comment 🤗. But I ain't looking for Whole-Home Discs etc, I'm just after a third-party VDSL modem / router.

Thank you 😊!

Re: Router Upgrade from BT SmartHub 2 to a different one

I understand that - I went through all the complicate  solutions first and spent a decent amount of money. The best value was the Deco M5 system - the BT mesh may be just as good/better but the deal seemed complicated and now there are various incomprehensible versions, black, white, owned, rented, and finally a "service".  The mesh idea is that each point talks to the other, so now I don't need to know what wi-fi I have in each room - it is just everywhere, mounds of it, same id, same password.

Hello again @gspearson,

I can't thank you any more for your kind speedy reply 😁. I also already know about MESH network as my Sky Q Minibox MESH's back to the Sky Q Mainbox which is in my living room. Once again I don't want MESH or Discs in my house, I am just after a VDSL modem / router yes I've not find one yet I still undecided on-going wait a reply back from other third-party users etc.

@Anonymous  Sorry to hear about your eyesight problem and can understand now your reasoning behind the font.

However, could I please ask that you do something about your huge sig, its not really appropriate for this forum  and is doubly intrusive due to the font. It is not actually displaying correctly as a sig either, it displays regardless of whether one configures the forum not to display sigs or not.
