We are receiving a new Smart hub 2 from BT as part of the digital voice upgrade. We currently have the main Smart hub in the house and a second hub (TP-link) in a home office connected by Cat6 cable from the house to office. Do we need to make any changes to the second TP-link hub when we install the new Smart hub 2 or will it continue working? I have read that the IP address of the second hub should be different and DHCP turned off, so am assuming that as both these changes have been made already for the existing network, the TP-link hub should just continue working? I haven't posted to this forum before so apologies if this information is already available. Many thanks.
Solved! Go to Solution.
No changes required, it will continue to work as before.
On a separate note, you might want to change the WiFi SSID (network name) and password of the new hub to that of the old one to save changing all your devices.
Thanks very much for such a quick reply! I'll look at your suggestion too as would save changing every device as you say.
Presumably, why wouldn't they?
Apologies for taking so long to reply. Yes we just had to plug in the new hub and the second hub continued working, as advised by licquorice. We didn't follow the second suggestion to change the name and password of the new hub to the old ones but in hindsight, we should have done, as it would have saved time changing all our devices, and there were some issues with old devices. Hope this helps.
You are comparing apples with oranges. @Hollymatth setup was simply replacing one router with another. You are replacing a modem with a router, an entirely different scenario.
Ok so what advice can you offer?
Depends what you want to achieve.
Do you want the Asus as a router or simply a Wireless Access Point?
