Switching from VM to Full Fibre 500 - Google Wifi - options?

I am considering switching from Virgin Media to BT Full Fibre 500 as the VM connection has been awful for weeks with no end in sight. They also have zero customer service - I'm done with them and happy for BT to pay off the leaving fee.

My current setup is:

  • VM superhub in modem mode
  • 4 x Google Wifi (the original ones, not Google Nest) pucks
  • various Devolo dLan powerlines connecting some of the Google Wifi pucks together

To be honest, I'm not in love with this setup as Google Wifi doesn't work very well at all without the powerlines providing an ethernet backhaul and even then I can't get a reliable wifi signal in my entire house. Happy to keep it for now though (minus the VM bit)

Having done a bit of research, I can't figure out if I would need to replace the BT Smart Hub with a dedicated modem as it doesn't have a "modem mode" and I don't want to deal with double-NAT.

I have seen comments indicating that a Full Fibre connection eradicates the need for this as you can connect straight to the Google puck, is this right? I can't find the link to where I saw this.

@monkeynews

The offer to pay off termination charges is by invitation only, so have you received a personal invitation from BT?

Look at the Important Information section.

With full fibre the ONT that terminates the fibre is the modem. You do not need another modem, just a PPPoE capable router.

Not yet, that's useful info thanks.

I'm trying to figure out what equipment/setup I would need first though - I'm not going to ring BT until I know what I need.

Ok that makes sense and tallies with stuff I have read elsewhere on this forum - thanks.
