Hi everyone. Very much hoping someone can help me 🙂 I’ve recently moved into a rental property. There is an Openreach line, not currently connected with a broadband provider. It was connected to Sky but this was disconnected before I moved in a month or so ago.
Since the line was put in by Openreach, the address has been changed. The new address has now been registered with Royal Mail’s postcode finder. But I can’t get broadband set up until the address has been updated on Openreach. How do I contact them to request the address change? Thanks 😊
Who is it you want to order service from ( which ISP , BT , Sky , Vodafone etc ) ?
Hi thanks for your message. I was planning to use EE but I’m not fixed on using them. It was them you spoke to today who told me I’d need to get address updated on Openreach
Then you need to ask whoever you want to use as a provider, and they can request an update, once you have placed an order with them.
Ah ok thanks. Though EE said that I’d need to contact Openreach to get the new address updated as it wasn’t showing up on Openreach’s database.
The normal thing needed is an ORDI ( Openreach data integrity ) check ,this aligns the address held by Openreach with the Royal Mail entry for that address , this is done by the ISP of the customer with an address with incorrect data .
Openreach usually don’t speak to end users just service providers , but there should be a way for the ISP (of your choice ) to raise an order against your unmatched address first , and then they can get the ORDI done , but without becoming a customer of a provider first , there isn’t this avenue into Openreach and ( obviously ) for arguments sake if BT were not your choice of provider there is no reason for BT customer service to involve themselves with another companies customer .
Ok thank you, that’s really helpful info. So I need to try and place an order with an ISP and then ask them to raise an ORDI to get the address changed… have I got that right?
You cannot contact Openreach, only a service provider can. Provided you have placed an order with EE, they can place an ORDI request with Openreach. I think this can take about 10 days.
Use the address checker on the page below, and post the results, but edit out your address details first, but leave the exchange name and cabinet number showing.

Please include all notes at the bottom.
Thanks. I do not have any of that info but will ask the landlord if he knows the telephone number
