Re: Updating Remote/2nd Router

Don't know why it didn't connect, it's IP address isn't relevant.

Re: Updating Remote/2nd Router

for the uninitiated [me], does it matter which port in the back of the SH2 that the connection to the wall plate is made? i have a Cat5/6 cable connection into wall plate now rather then a phone line port [apologies for lack of knowledge or termonology] so does it matter which of those for ports i use?

Re: Updating Remote/2nd Router

So do you have FTTP rather than FTTC?

If so you need to configure port 4 of the hub as a WAN port.

There is probably a catch22 here as it requires a certain version of the hub to make port4 configurable and your version might be too old.

Re: Updating Remote/2nd Router

whilst looking for this, ive just noticed that although i have what look like SH2s, some have a 'Hub' Interface/Product Code and others have a 'SmartHub 2' Interface/Product Code.

Do i then have a mix of Hubs and SmartHub 2s, even though they look the same?

Re: Updating Remote/2nd Router

Possibly.

The fundamental question here is how your broadband is delivered, is it full fibre or copper from the cabinet? That will determine what and how can be updated.

Re: Updating Remote/2nd Router

how do i tell?

if its 'FTTP on' in technical log for the Gateway router, then yes it is on.

For context, checked .253 router and FTTP is off, as assume its not th gateway so this should be off?

Do you have an Optical Modem (ONT) that your router connects to.

if its 'FTTP on' in technical log for the Gateway router, then yes it is on.

That can be on  regardless of whether you actually have FTTP

For context, checked .253 router and FTTP is off, as assume its not th gateway so this should be off?

It doesn't matter unless you need Port 4 as an extra LAN port, but if you have FTTP and need to connect that router to line, you will need to set it to 'On'

My only freestanding box is the SH2. My wall socket was changed last year from what id call a normal phone line socket to a powered socket with a RJ45 connection in and lights ion. this is what my SH2 connects to.

Re: Updating Remote/2nd Router

You have FTTP, full fibre.

You need to set Port4 to FTTP mode, that is the only port that can be used to connect to the ONT

You will only be able to update Smart Hub 2s that are already at the version of firmware that supports toggling port 4 from LAN to WAN and not Smart Hubs at all.
