Using BT (EE) Hybrid Connect with a non BT router

I am replacing my BT Hub 2 with my own Asus Rog Rapture router.

Is there a way to still use my Hybrid Connect 4G device as a backup on the new router? I.e. without the BT Hub 2.

No, the hybrid connect will only work with an appropriate Smart Hub.
