There is the argument that ISP's in this country have been obliged to log destinations and keep the data for 12 months since the IPA.

Re: WiFi security

Hi, I seem to have opened a can of worms here but I am grateful for all the advice and thanks to all. Realistically I will not replace anything and will stick to the system that I have. About the VPN, I do not use it all the time just connecting when using public WiFi. I have certainly learned something so raising the issue was definitely worthwhile.

Cheers

Michael.

Every day is a learning day. You’ve not opened a can of worms at all. It all depends on what YOU want from your home broadband setup. ISP router = plug and play, no dramas for the majority of customers. For me, I’ll take a decent 3rd party router any day because I’ve got the control that I want over it.

Despite what others might think of my posts, there’s some excellent advice coming from other contributors here.

That's very true and I think that's what forums are all about and people have different opinions.

Personally when we are out and about on holidays, I'll have a hotspot set up on my phone, and I'll connect to the VPN server running on my router!

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!
