Wires into house..confusion!

Go to solution

Hi all.

Need help.

Partners house (late 60's early 70's) main BT cable has the normal Black, Green. White, Orange wires.
BUT only the black and green wires are used, they go to the master socket. Everything works though.
( I noted that my house is the opposite only white and orange are used straight into a modern Openreach socket to A and B terminals).

The master socket in partners house has to be re-positioned (currently it is a good 20 feet away from the cable entry point) to an Openreach socket to A and B terminals with phone and DSL outputs.

Is this likely a simple case of the wiring being 'wrong' on original installation?

I enclose photo of the inlet cable and the socket it wires to 20 feet away.
The question is which wires connect to A and B on Openreach socket?
Cheers

Jerry

@JerryUK57

The incoming connection belongs to Openreach not BT. Who provides your partner`s phone and broadband connection?

Any changes to the incoming connection would have to be done by Openreach.

The incoming connection only requires 2 wires. The orange and white wires are pair one at green and black pair two. Normally pair one would be used but if it was faulty pair two would be used.

All wired correctly.

Cheers.
She recently changed to NOW! Broadband.
Heard Openreach would charge £200. Rather important consideration these days.

If you want further support, it would best to ask on the Now forum  https://community.nowtv.com/t5/Forums/ct-p/Forums

They may be able to give you an idea of the cost.

This is the BT Retail Customer Forum.

It doesn't matter, broadband and phone are not polarity conscious.
