can spare hub be connected by wifi to create extender

Hi

I see that connecting spare hub by ethernet cable allows the spare to be used as an extender.

Is it possible to have a spare as an extender without an ethernet cable from the main hub to the spare hub?

Usually no, because there's no way to connect a router to the WiFi network of another. The exception being those with mesh networking implemented within them such as the Fritzboxes I use.

You could do it but would require some extra equipment, such a an access point that can act as a client rather than an AP  You could probably use another PV/Laptop with both Ethernet and WiFi but that would be even more complex. The AP would need to be connected to the "spare" router with Ethernet, DHCP disabled on the spare,  static addresses assigned to the spare and AP, and the spare would have t have a different SSID to your main router else the AP could just connect to the spare rather than main.

Convoluted and unless you have a suitable AP lying around probably not worth the cost unless you have a need that cannot be met by normal means.

Two hubs will only work if connected in Access Point mode, hence the need for the ethernet cable.

If running an ethernet cable is undesirable or impractical then you will have to consider another way of achieving your objective, for example Complete Wi-fi discs or powerline converters but do your homework first, powerline converters have to be used in accordance with certain criteria in order to obtain a stable connection.
