hi
currently have the bt home hub 2. appears to be slow. we are supposed to have 70mbs speeds. have done a speed test and bt are saying its fine from the exchange to the router. Would changing the router make the downloads speeds faster as I try and download games via steam and max downloads speed is 10mbps.
it all confuses me :S
BT quoted speeds are connecting speed to your hub not download speeds.
Are the steam download speed in bits or Bytes remembering there are 8 bits in a Byte so sped of about 70 Mbits will give download about 8MBytes
Are you using ethernet or wife remembering WiFi suffers from interference which will reduce download speed
Are you sure you are not getting MBps and Mbps mixed up.
One thing that often gives people confusion is the difference between a (MB) Megabyte (used for file size) and a (Mb) Megabit (used for download speeds). People often assume that a download speed of 1 Megabit per second (1 Mbps) will allow them to download a 1 Megabyte file in one second. This is not the case, a Megabit is 1/8 as big as a Megabyte, meaning that to download a 1MB file in 1 second you would need a connection of 8Mbps.
This would mean if you were mixing them up you would be downloading a 10MB file at approx 80Mbps which would be in line with your estimated speeds.
