Cannot access TNT and Sky Sport channels - IPC6023 code

A few days ago I found that I could no longer switch to the TNT and Sky sports channels on my BT TV Box either from the Guide or by entering the channel number. The box switches but I get the usual progress-bar overlay but on a black background, then the overlay disappears as usual and leaves a blank screen for perhaps 15-20 seconds then I get a message saying that 'there is a problem with your broadband' and giving an IPC6023 error code. It doesn't seem likely that we do actually have a problem with the broadband or our home network because everything else is working just fine with good responses and I can actually watch the same content using the Discovery+ or NOW applications on the BT TV Box, though I do much prefer to use the existing channels directly and record them.

I did try using BT's 'chat' facility to investigate this issue but that was not that helpful. Having tried turning various devices off and on and having a remote factory reset on the BT Box performed there was no change. It did however cause an e-mail to be sent to me with a reference number/code but I have to say that I have no idea how I can use that to check the progress of this issue, let alone add any other information. As our network is a little bit unusual I did unplug the BT Box later and take it to the Smart Hub (we are on full-fibre 500) and connect it via a short Ethernet cable to the Hub; the results were exactly the same.

This issue is somewhat irritating and I would like to correct it but I have no idea how to talk to someone who can really investigate rather than going through a script (or more likely a bot running through standard but basic procedures). It would seem from looking around this community forum that this not exactly an unheard-of issue and I could do with some useful advice.

Re: Cannot access TNT and Sky Sport channels - IPC6023 code

I would try turning off your ONT at the power (your BT hub will go flashing purple) then do a factory reset on the hub by pressing the small reset button till it goes green and wait till it goes back to flashing purple. After that plug the ONT back in.  If that doesn't clear it then turn your TV box off then on.  Failing that I would contact BT who will be able to investigate further but those steps hopefully will help.

Re: Cannot access TNT and Sky Sport channels - IPC6023 code

I have tried what you suggested but it has made no difference.

As I said in my original post I am at a loss as to how to actually make contact with anyone at BT that can help me. Using the 'chat' facility seems to be using a 'bot' which goes through a set of turn this off and on, then reset that, and even doing a 'factory reset' remotely on the BT TV Box but none of it had any effect and I ended up starting the whole routine over again - pointless. Calling 150 seems to give me a dead end and I am, as I said earlier, beginning to get a bit grumpy. I am sure that something has been changed somewhere within BT's or Openreach's systems (not necessarily the networks) but what?

Can anyone suggest a path forward for me to follow?

Re: Cannot access TNT and Sky Sport channels - IPC6023 code

@Arthurb The IPC6023 error is a loss of multicast packets which EETV relies upon to deliver your IP channels. Your best hope might be that @David_H is able to spare the time to look into this for you as you’ve explored other avenues with no joy.

@Arthurb I’ve tagged him into my previous message, so he should have received a notification from this forum.

Ah, sorry, I have just sent him a messsage (I think). I am new to this forum and a bit unclear about the protocols so I really hope that I am not breaking any rules, still less being rude to the only people that seem to be able to help.

Re: Cannot access TNT and Sky Sport channels - IPC6023 code

Hello Brucemeister, I have had no communication from David_H as yet so could you advise me on how long I should wait and whether I should not have messaged him? As I said earlier the last thing I want to do is annoy someone who might be able to help me.

@Arthurb I don’t think that it was advisable to have messaged him directly. I tagged him into my message to you in the hope that he may have seen it and been able to have a look at your issue. It appears that he hasn’t been active on this forum board since the end of last month though. I would wait and see if he responds in the coming days.

Thanks for the quick response. I will wait and hopefully can apologise for the direct message if he does respond.

Thanks again.
