Todays football coverage on TNT sports is very limited , one live game between an Australian and New Zealand club teams.
This is disappointing and demonstrates how wafer thin the soccer content has become on weekends since BT gave control over to WBD.
A consequence of TNT Sports passing on this round. We are in the last year of the current PL contract. They’ve passed again for the last round of matches at the end of November. There are 34 weekend rounds and TNT have the rights for 32 picks in package A ( 20 second picks and 12 fifth picks). If they were to pass again on another weekend round during the current season then they would double up for another round, although that seems unlikely.
The new 4 year PL contract begins next season. There are 32 weekend rounds and TNT have the rights to 32 weekend picks ( 18 second picks and 14 fourth picks). There are 6 midweek rounds and TNT have the rights to 2 of those with the other 4 going to Sky. It seems unlikely that TNT would choose to pass a weekend round next season as they have no need to, but that remains to be seen.
The reduction in the Serie A contract that TNT have agreed to together with the dropping of Ligue 1 rights altogether are also a factor in the lack of live football today.
You would have thought that they might have checked / sourced other football before opting not to show a Premier League game this week. They don’t even have womens football due to their international break.
Correction to my earlier post about next season.
There are 5 midweek rounds( where all 10 fixtures are shown live) and the first three of those will be broadcast by Sky, and the fourth and fifth will be broadcast by TNT Sports. The final round of matches ( round 38) will all be broadcast live by Sky Sports.
