Logging in on Desktop...Passcode

Go to solution

Helloooo

I seem to be spending more and more time on here at the moment...people will get talking at this rate 😉😉

Is anyone else experiencing isssues with obtaining their passcode for access to their email account(s)?

I have tried two different accounts, trying to log in and waiting for the passcode to arrive by text on my iPhone, but nothing and now I've been timed out for 20 minutes.

I feel dreary, but hoping someone else has the same issue and can resolve it

Cheers

The simplest way to avoid the passcode shenanigans is to not use webmail. Use a mail app on your phone or mail client such as Thunderbird on your laptop/PC/Mac.

I was advised to use Outlook, and that remains logged in!

Outlook does not remain logged in. It logs in when you open it and checks for emails then logs out. If you then send an email it will then login and send the email the log out. If you have it set to fetch your email at certain times it will login to check then log out.

It does not go through the 2FA process because BT have not set it up in their security system to require it.

Good point.

To access my emails, I turn on my Win 11 pc , enter the screen lock password and click on the Outlook Icon in the taskbar and read my inbox.

I can use the Outlook "add account" to add my BTinternet account to "login" and remove it to "log out".

I like the BT webmail to check if emails are spam.

The App is not quite so clear at identifing spam emails from the senders address.

This worried me. The Register had an article titled: "All the passwords were stored in Active Directory description fields. It was far too easy for a hacker to get the information"

Why on earth are you adding and removing your BTMail account in order to check it!

The whole idea of an email client is to simplify the process of checking your email.

Just add the BTMail account and any other email account that you want and as long as your PC is secure so that nobody else can access it so is Outlook and any email accounts that are on it.

You can set Outlook to access the spam folder on your BTMail account and you will see any spam in the Outlook spam folder.

Outlook can identify the address of any of your emails in the same way as BTMail does on webmail. Just hover your mouse over the email address of the email that you want to check.

If you do not already know what "Active Directory" is, before getting worried about it do an Internet search on what it is and read up on it then decide if it is relevant to you and whether or not you should be worried.
