Phishing on here.

Yesterday I was sent a private message from @HelpCustomer1
They said they were from customer support and wanted to help me with a technical problem.
They asked for the UK number that had the problem. As I live abroad I also gave them my overseas number and email with my name. They said their team would call me. They signed off as bt support.
A few hours later my UK number started receiving text messages saying a Vodafone account was having its security details changed, and that my number had been added as a contact. I have no account with Vodafone.

I reported the matter to Vodafone and BT. Doing this from abroad was a lengthy onerous task. The leaked information on its own is not too sensitive, but concerning nonetheless.

So a warning to be extra cautious on this forum. Anybody could be lurking…… And @HelpCustomer1 is not from Bt support as he has only made 1 post asking how to improve his broadband.

There appears to be no way to report this on the BT Community other than posting this.

Re: Phishing on here.

Good morning @Apial.

Thanks for taking the time to highlight this to me, I can imagine this must have been really worrying, and especially so if you're out of the country at the moment.

Just to be sure first of all, did you manage to get things resolved between BT and Vodafone to ensure no changes take place with your number?

I'm also going to go ahead and ban this user, and flag this activity with the Community manager too.

@Peter_W

It would also be an idea to see if this Khoros platform has a mechanism to ban new users from the messaging system until they've made a significant contribution. Certainly not foolproof but if they've got to hang around while & make meaningful posts, it's a deterrent.

Maybe also check with the EE side, as it appears that the platforms have been configured differently between brands.

Re: Phishing on here.

I managed to contact both BT and Vodafone. I’m not sure if they are investigating it, but they will take a while to reply, probably.

Unfortunately I do not know what the evil plan was. Adding my number to a contact of a Vodafone account seems strange. It could be an attempt to hijack my phone number. But several other phone numbers were being added too, according to the text messages arriving from Vodafone.
