Hi all,
I have recently moved to Fibre 900 and I would like to try an Asus RT-AC88U router to see if I can improve wifi speeds and coverage in my home vs the BT supplied router.
I am advised that I should use the following login details over the PPoE connection:
username: bthomehub@btbroadband.com
password: BT
However the router is not able to connect to the internet. I manually installed the latest firmware and I still have no joy getting internet. After speaking to Asus support, one of the advised steps is to connect a PC/Mac direct to the modem, I assume to check I am getting internet in, but I don't get anything. I am not sure if this is a related issue, as I get internet fine when I use the BT router. I also managed to get the internet with a Netgear router but I returned it as my speeds were halved for some reason, hence now I am trying with the Asus.
Many thanks for any help.

ASUS have clearly given you poor advice as your broadband connection clearly works with other routers.
The PPPoE details are correct and I can only suggest trying a factory reset and starting again. If that fails it is possibly a faulty device.

Forgive me for asking the obvious.
Why (if you haven't bought it yet) would buy a modem router Asus RT-AC88U when the Asus RT-AX88U cable router is the one for the job on the FTTP 900 - 110 package.
Asking for a friend . 😁
The Asus RT-AC88U doesn't have a modem - it is a router hence the model name starts with RT.
Ahh my bad. Sorry.
Hi all,
Thanks for all the replies. Yes I don’t need a modem-router since BT Fibre comes with a standalone modem.
anyway, now onto the good news - it’s working! I’m writing this message through the WiFi of the ASUS!
I hard reset the router as advised, but first made sure the latest firmware was installed. I then used the ASUS router IOS app to setup the router and it’s all working!
What speeds have you achieved, Wired and WiFi.
@busterboy1 Its the ASUS DSL xxxx models that have a modem
Noted
I get 850-900 wired with a 2019 MacBook Pro. On the same laptop I get about 700 when close to router on WiFi.
my 3 year old iPhone X seems to top out at about 350, in all rooms in the house. My wife’s newer iPhone SE gets about 500, at least in the one room I’ve tested.
in a three story house, not too bad!
