BT Sport Digital Exclusive

Go to solution

@DarrenDev- one for you?

I'm sure this has been answered before but  when a match is a "BT Sport Digital Exclusive" like the Champions League prelims next Tuesday - are these available using the BTtv set-top-box BTTV app - or using the BTSPORT app on Amazon Firestick?

Unfortunately not @ozsat - they're currently still only available in the mobile/tablet apps on iOS and Android, and it's doubtful they'll become available on other platforms before the start of the new football season.

Hi @ozsat thanks for your question, the BT Sport Digital Exclusive content will only be shown on the BT Sport app.

Cheers

Is this a technical issue or a sports rights issue  ?

Technical.
DX events are managed by a 3rd party (the same one that provides the enhanced player in the mobile app). We have a plan to bring them to all the other apps, but it needs a bit of integration work that hasn't quite made it to the top of the list yet - too many other priority tasks.

Regardless of whether or not these are only available on the mobile apps, have BT Sport ever shown Champions League Preliminary qualifying round games before? I’m aware that this season 2021/22 sees the beginning of the new contract for BT Sport’s CL/EL/ECL rights, and wondered if this meant that we are likely to see more qualifying round games being shown on BT Sport, even if they are Digital Exclusive.

 Normally the home club sells the TV rights to their home  matches prior to the rounds covered by the UEFA package where UEFA sells the TV rights  so they can end up on any channel.  I think this year UEFA has arranged a competition in the Faroes for the first stage of the Champions League.

The preliminary round is a mini-tournament consisting of semi-finals on 22 June and a final on 25 June, all one-off matches to be played in the Faroe Islands.
