Doro 8080 Wi-Fi Calling Compatibility

Go to solution

Good evening,

I'm a pensioner with only a basic technical knowledge, so please go easy!

I'm looking to buy my first smartphone, but I know the signal inside my bungalow is non-existent, so I believe it must be compatible with Wi-Fi Calling to my BT Home Network.

If I buy a Doro 8080 from Amazon and a Sim only card from BT, will that work, please?

Hi @WorriedParent, welcome back and have a look at Learn About Wifi Calling and it does say "It's available to anyone with BT Mobile - whether you've got SIM only, a Family SIM or a BT Mobile phone plan. You'll need a compatible device with the latest software."

I can't answer if the Doro 8080 is a compatible device so you'll need to check this out so it would be best to check out with Doro to be sure it is compatible.

cheers

John

Many thanks.
The Doro 8080 works off Wi-Fi, so is that good enough to ensure it works on Wi-Fi Calling?
My understanding is that the ISP, in this case BT, have to enable it.
BT sell the next model down (Doro 8050) with Wi-Fi Calling, so is that also a good sign, please?

Hi @WorriedParent, thanks for replying. I've had a look at BT Wifi Calling and the Compatible Devices Link shows the Doro 8050 so I would expect that is a good sign. Just to be sure it would be best to call in (0800 800 150) and speak with the BT Mobile team and they'll be able to confirm if it will work ok.

cheers

John

I spoke to the BT Mobile Team as advised and they suggest I consult Amazon, so I'm not really any closer to an answer!
Anyway, I've ordered a Doro 8080 from Amazon since I can return it if Wi-Fi Calling isn't available.

Hi again,
Well, my Doro 8080 has arrived from Amazon, but I'm struggling to set it up!
Having installed the BT Sim Card, I can make and receive calls between the Doro and my home landline phone, however the sim card status on the Doro recognises it's a BT sim but says number unknown.
Is this expected, please?

Having spent over 30 mins talking to BT Customer Support:
(1) It seems it doesn't matter that the phone doesn't know it's own number!
(2) BT do not support Wi-Fi calling on phones bought from Amazon!
As you can imagine, I'm not best pleased!
