Fibre 1 “upgrade”

First post here and looking for a bit of advice.

So I currently have Fibre Essential with estimated speed of 35-36mb and a guarantee if 31mb.

My contract is due for renewal and online it shows I’m being offered an “upgrade” to Fibre 1 for slightly less than my current price.

So far so good but when I click to go through the order it comes up saying my estimated speed is 31-33mb and guarantee of 27mb.

Surely an “upgrade” would offer a better speed?

Also the contractors have literally just finished digging up my street to lay fibre cables so this will allow us to get fibre to the property but this is not yet available….if I take the fibre 1 will I then get fibre installed into the house when it’s ready?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Fibre 1 “upgrade”

If you don’t get the maximum from Fibre Essential on FTTC  then the limitations of the line ( primarily the distance to the fibre cab ) will mean any ‘upgrade’ will not increase download speed , but there could be other benefits to upgrading though, as far as the ‘estimate’ , there is no reason why your speed would be any different to what you currently get now , should you ‘upgrade’  , after all why would there be, nothing has changed, the ‘line’ and the equipment are the same.

The lower minimum speed guarantee could mean you wouldn’t be able to leave penalty free if the speed were to be worse than the original MSG but better than the new MSG , but TBH it’s 31 compared to 27, and again no reason to think this would ever be an issue, whatever you get now would almost certainly remain the speed you get after ‘upgrading’.
If FTTP becomes available then you can usually migrate if you enquire , it may even be offered before you contact BT as company are incentivised to move customers off older networks and into FTTP, and with FTTP you get what you pay for , so Fibre 1 on FTTP will be 55Mb
