Re: New Smarthub2 and WDMYCloud connectivity

@newja

It could well be possible to get any important files off of the WDCloud.

The process is likely to be to remove the HDD , attach it to Sata enclosure and mount that on a Linux PC. Any competent PC repair shop or friend should be able to do that for you and then copy the files off to another HDD.

The only issue might be that WD sometimes integrate an additional controller into the HDD and connecting to any enclosure might be problematic.

Re: New Smarthub2 and WDMYCloud connectivity

Thanks for this. I shall consider taking it somewhere once I have had a think through whether I can just live without it...

Re: New Smarthub2 and WDMYCloud connectivity

Having found all the important stuff elsewhere then I am giving up the cloud as a bad broken job - and will dismantle and get the memory out and destroy.

On a separate note though, I now wonder what the use of the USB port is on the back of the smarthub.  I have attached my brand spanking new 1 TB HDD and the hub sees it and knows it is there - should I be able to see it fro my PC though?  Just wondering what the designed use of such a port is?!

Re: New Smarthub2 and WDMYCloud connectivity

Yes, you can map it to a drive letter, I have a 2Tb drive connected to mine. It is very slow as it is only USB2.

Map the drive letter to \\192.168.1.254\usb1 or \\(hub name)\usb1

Back to where we started with my first response in message 2 of this thread 😀

Re: New Smarthub2 and WDMYCloud connectivity

Oh yes, I remember our earlier discussion now!

Sadly I get no connection, just:

and the reference to SMB I have seen elsewhere - I have checked my W10 features and SMB is "on"...

Re: New Smarthub2 and WDMYCloud connectivity

Just noticed your Hub isn't visible under Networks either.

Is your Network set to Public or Private?

I can see my hub - can I ask how I would know?

Re: New Smarthub2 and WDMYCloud connectivity

Update, it was set to public, looking at the options I suspect private is what it should be?

Re: New Smarthub2 and WDMYCloud connectivity

Its in Settings > Network and Internet > Properties in W11 but I can't remember if it is the same in W10, but it will be somewhere in Network settings.

Set it to Private
