Old default paid

Hi,

i spoke to someone from customer service regarding a default payment on my credit file (15£). As it was from 2017 I had to pay it via bank transfer. I have done this but the default ist still on my credit file and hasn’t changed to settled. Can someone help me with this? It’s very urgent as it’s stopping us getting our mortgage.

Re: Default On Credit File

Hi,

I need help with the same issue. I have a default of £15 I wasn’t aware of. I called the helpline and they advised me because it was from 2017 I could only pay it via bank transfer which I have done. The default is still on my Equifax credit file. Could you help me at all? It’s hindering our mortgage progression and we are desperate to get it off.

Many thanks 🙏🙏🙏

Re: Old default paid

Hi @Sookie88

Thank you for posting and welcome to the Community.

I'm sorry if you believe there is an incorrect default showing against your credit file.

The quickest why to get this fixed is to contact Equifax. Equifax will then mark your credit file as 'in query', so there's no further impact on your credit file until the query's resolved.

Equifax will then contact BT's Equifax disputes team and they'll work on your behalf to resolve the issue.

It normally takes around 21 days once the account has been marked as "in query" and during that time, you won't be affected by whatever was previously showing on your credit file.

Thanks

PaddyB

Re: Old default paid

Hi,

Is there a quicker way as we don’t have 21 days unfortunately. When I spoke to the customer service team they said it would be marked as settled as soon as the payments was received.

Re: Old default paid

Sadly, even when you settle, the account will not be removed immediately from your credit report.  A late payment on the account will remain on your credit report for seven years from the date of notification by BT to the agencies.

Re: Old default paid

Hi,

Im aware of they I just need BT to change it to settled instead of it still saying it’s unpaid.
