Payments after cancelling account

I left BT in May 2020 with my account in credit. I never got a refund . Instead I continued to get bills for one of the add on features on the landline . I phoned earlier this year to try to sort it , as my account was being reduced quarter on quarter and no sign of the refund. After an hour on the phone I was assured it was sorted and the cheque would be in the post. This morning I got a bill fort this quarter  . When I ring the helpline I’m asked for the number , which I no longer have. Im at my wits end….help please !
