2nd WHW won't connect via ethernet, only wifi

Hi...there are posts touching on this but I couldn't find an answer...I have 2 discs both wired directly to a netgear switch which in turn has the bt router connected to it.

My downstairs disc shows as connected by ethernet...all good but the upstairs one seems to only connect by WiFi even though the ethernet cable is plugged in.

I've checked the cable and it's fine.  I've removed the disc and added it back in but same outcome.

Any help please.

Thanks.

As far as I'm aware, you can't connect 2 discs via Ethernet only one.

If you simply wanted 2 WAPs, why waste money buying an expensive mesh system.

Re: 2nd WHW won't connect via ethernet, only wifi

It was a test to see if its possible as I want to put a disc in a garden room which is quite far from the house and was planning to hardwire it.  I'd read on other threads this can be done but I can't seem to get it to work.

A simple WAP in the garden room will suffice, no need for a mesh system.

Thanks for your suggestion but I'd still like an answer to my question.

Thanks for your suggestion but I'd still like an answer to my question.

Other posts suggest it's possible to connect a 2nd disc via ethernet.  Any ideas why mine isn't working?

It might be possible if the 2 discs are far enough apart so as not to connect to each other via WiFi otherwise you will be creating a loop with both an Ethernet and WiFi connection to the second disc.

The answer depends upon the variation of WHW disc you have, see BT Whole Home Wi-Fi FAQs - Set-up and installation | BT Help
