Re: BT Smart Hub2 WiFi broadcasting without an SSID despite being turned off

How was your access point connected before? Was it just plugged in to a LAN port on your old BT Hub? Which hub did you have before?

Thanks for follow up. Pre change/move to EE SH2 we used Netgear (D6400); original BT SH2 still in box (& now returned to BT). Now attempting to use the same D6400 as WiFi AP. I reconfigured (enabled WiFi AP) then connected via ethernet (to WAN port). I didn't alter anything else?

It should be connected to a LAN port on the Hub rather than the WAN one. Also switch off DHCP on the AP and make sure it's ip address isn't the same as the EE hub.

Thanks. Just to be clear, ethernet is SH2 LAN port connection to AP WAN port. D6400 ip is 192.168.0.1 (should I adjust?) vs SH2 192.168.1.254. I also need to check/disable DHCP. Meanwhile thanks for advice.

Try plugging in it to a LAN port on the AP rather than the WAN and change the AP address to 192.168.1 .1

That should be LAN to LAN.  Assuming the subnet mask is still the default of 255.255.255.0, 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.254 are separate networks and therefore won’t talk to each other.  They both need to be 192.168.1.X

Edit: Typing at the same time as SRB.

Don't use an IP address beginning 191. You should keep to "Private IP Address" ranges (look it up), e.g 192.168.2.x/24

True.  191 is public and will be a typo I expect.

Just to clarify,  /24 is the same thing as 255.255.255.0 but the SH2 used the latter notation, rather than slash notation.  Also, you could use 192.168.2 but 1 will do and matches the default on the SH2.  The important thing is that the third number is the same on all the devices.
