Since upgrading to FTTP our BT8500 no longer takes messages. It works as a phone and the messages are apparently recorded but the recording is not available on the answerphone. Has anyone else experienced similar issues?

My guess would be that BT Voicemail is answering before the 8500. Dial 1571 & see if the messages are there. You then need to decide whether you want the Voicemail or 8500 to take messages. I believe there are options in the 1571 menu to turn it off.
Bingo! I changed the answer delay on 1571 to exceed the phone and all is fixed. Thanks for your help.
