I don't know for sure, but I suspect the new BT Smarthub 3 WILL work with existing black extender disks, but the downside might be these disks working only in WiFi 5, thus nullifying the WiFi 6 or 7 output from the SH3.

Quite simply it is a deal breaker. The deal they have offered is only £5 off my current price for my Existing Halo 3 deal which includes the extender discs. It doesn’t come near what a new customer is offered.

So if they want to keep me, new equipment please. They want me to recontract for a 2 year stretch so why shouldn’t I get what a new customer gets for the same length contract?

Otherwise I am off to Plusnet and I’ll buy my own WiFi 7 mesh system.

@Colin_London  The obvious answer is simply to stop mucking about with BT and switch to Plusnet if you don’t even need a landline. They’ll be no change in service from a broadband perspective but what you will get is a new customer deal without wasting breath talking to anyone, especially if you use OTS which works, I know, I’ve done it.

Buying your own router is probably also one of the better things you can do. At least you then have a load of choices you can control instead of your ISP determining what you can and can’t control.

Based on the delta for what I paid for Halo 3 when I switched to it a new customer with Halo 3 would still be paying less than I would be on this ‘special personalised deal’. So yes, would be more than pleased to be paying a new Halo 3 customer deal as it would be cheaper again.

I see that the EE Smart Hub 7 Plus SH35A is available on ebay for around £30 (I'm bidding on one now).

Why are the compatible wifi extenders (SW35A) around £75? Are there simply not many around?

It’s all very vague from bt they don’t seem to give any information wether it’s available to existing residential customers if there’s additional charges, at moment bt web site very limited with info cannot give any offers just says there’s issues and trying to sort  not what you expect from such high profile company

@Usband  I think it’s been explained that only new residential customers taking out a new contract get a SH3. BT are not going to go out of their way to offer all and sundry an exchange of router just because you’d like to have one. It would cost a huge amount of money to do so and then if they did, the cost would just be added to everyone else’s bills anyway in order to pay for it. Plus, there’s the huge amount of electrical waste to be dealt with.

As for buying BT/EE routers off eBay, again, most likely a lot of them have come from unverifiable sources, effectively grey market, possibly fake items which may or may not be electrically safe. They’ll almost certainly be unsupported by BT/EE if there are problems with them. You pays your money and you take your chances.

It may well be possible to buy a SH3 (or EE equivalent) from BT/EE but when I went looking yesterday I couldn't find such on their official sites.
I'm willing to risk £25 for an ebay purchase (doing as much due diligence as is possible on that site) but as you say 'caveat emptor'.

Surprised bt don’t advertise as an option to upgrade at a possible slight increase in cost as quite a few customers with modern and sophisticated equipment would like the opportunity to get a router that matches the new tech and streaming services that are coming on line now, without having to change service providers and all the hassle that comes with it. But would be interested if you manage to upgrade with out to much trouble

I was offered a great deal to recontract from 500GB/s to 900 GB/s for £3 extra. Small print? Smart hub 2. And for me I need the new complete wifi discs to go with SH3. So recontract is a no go and purchase on fleabay is a no go (too expensive for disc plus hub £100 for both).

The issue is that we are stuck on wifi 5 for far too long. EE is on WiFi 7 and now BT is on WiFi6 but unavailable

I think they prefer transfer over to ee, seems that side of organisation offers moderner tech.they did have a policy of migrating bt customers over to. Ee but that doesn’t seem case now unless you ask, seems to be numerous hubs about if you add plus net/ bt / ee you wouldn’t think cost efficient, I probably don’t see bigger picture???
