Replacing NTE5C MK4 with a smaller size socket

Hi, we have a BT NTE5C MK4 faceplate master socket in our home but it is a huge socket 3inches coming out from the wall, makes it really hard for us to work around our furnitures. 

Is it possible to replace it with a smaller model master socket? Which model is suitable?
Our service provider is EE, is this something we can ask EE to do for us? Or should we contact BT directly?

It is absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with BT. The master socket belongs to Openreach.
