Broadband speed

I am looking at moving from another supplier to BT. If I select the 900MBPS deal but I’m only getting  a speed that suits the package below, would my package be amended? I don’t mind paying more for the faster speed but don’t want to pay it unnecessarily.

If you take out an FTTP package you will get the full speed for that package.

In my opinion EE might be a better option.  BT will give you a wifi 5 SH2 router that hasn't developed since 2019.

EE will offer you a wifi 6 or 7 router which in my experience will give you greater speeds. 

The wifi 6 router comes with the 900mbps package  but you'll have to pay a tenner monthly extra for the wifi 7.

Do you need 900mbps though? 

It's a lot easier to upgrade a package then downgrade. 

Personally I'd go for the 500mbps and in the unlikely event it isn't fast enough you go can easily upgrade

Ah you need someone with greater technical knowledge then me to answer that one.

But from personal experience I was getting max 200mbps over wifi on the SH2 but with the EE wifi 6 I regularly get 510mbps on my 500mbps package. 

Personally Unless you have multiple wifi 7 enabled goodies around the house I'd save the extra £10 and just stick with the EE router.

Just in case you are not aware. The speed that you get will be the speed of the package that you go for. The package speed is measured delivered to the router. It is not necessarily the speed delivered to the device especially when measuring speeds by wireless which can be affected by many different things so what one person gets is not necessarily the same as you will get or not get. 

In most cases you will get the full package speed if connected by Ethernet.

There are many users on the forum who get the maximum speed of their package using wireless on the Smarthub 2 so I would not take it as read that the EE router is better than the Smarthub 2 nor would I take as read that the Smarthub 2 is better than the EE router.

As regards wireless connections, you pay your money and take your chances.

Think it's universally accepted that speed over Ethernet is irrelevant if you can't get a signal at the bottom of the garden. 

All the major isp's offer wifi 6, some like EE and Sky wifi 7.

A Ford Cortina was a great car that made a lot of people happy and did all that was asked of it....but wouldn' you rather have a ford Puma?

Irrelevant if you live in a tower block or don't have wireless devices or are a gamer etc etc and I'll stick with my non Ford car.
