Does anybody know if BT engineers ring you just before they come out for the appointment ? Reason for asking is contact number given is mine (as house phone in question isn’t working) but I am a couple of streets away. A family member will be in at the house that has the problem but isn’t always great at letting tradesmen in ,so would prefer if I was alerted and can go down.
Did try phoning (0330 1234 150) to ask ,but it started testing my set up for problems so I had to hang up. Can’t phone from the house with the issue as phone there is not working at all.

BT do not send out engineers, they work in offices designing networks.
Openreach send out Field Technician's or third party contractors.
Openreach would normally send a text message to the mobile phone number registered to the account. You may sometimes get a call from an Openreach Field Technician.

Re: Do BT engineers phone just before they turn up for an appointment?
It’s Openreach engineers not BT , but yes the are supposed to ring the given contact number before turning up at the address , obviously that requires the ISP to indicate to Openreach the contact number to be used , it does seem however they sometimes do use the number of the faulty line as the contact number which is obviously self defeating if the line is out of order

When I arranged to have a phone installed in my first home in 1988, (it didn't previously have a line and it was before many people had mobiles), the installation engineer didn't turn up for the scheduled appointment.
Apparently they did try to call me - on the number that they had come to install! 🤔
