You are on VDSL, so you should have no issues with any VDSL capable combined modem/router.

No TP Link router wants to work , yet the SH2 does. 

 

3 TP Link routers don't work on this line. A VR900 and now 2 VR2100's. 

 

But at least now I know its VDSL.

Which exact TP Link models, and can you confirm that they all have a DSL input connection, and are not just routers?

TP Link are confusing with model numbers.

The correct model description is TP-Link ARCHER VR400 AC1200 Wireless VDSL/ADSL Modem Router.

And this is the 2100 https://www.tp-link.com/uk/service-provider/dsl-router/archer-vr2100/

In both cases the setup wizard allows you to select BT VDSL and then enter the PPPoE login details.

User name would be bthomehub@btbroadband.com and password would be BT.

OK yes, they are confusing, so i'll link them

 

The first we had was an older VR900

We had this at the previous house running perfectly OK with BT Broadband, although I cannot tell you which Broadband it was, it wasn't my line, BUT we brought it to our new house now, and it was working fine for about a month before it just died and wouldn't connect to the internet at all, it was old.

 

We then replaced it with a VR2100

And it worked perfectly for about 2 months. Login PPoE was btinternet@btbroadband.com no password. VLAN ID is 101. 

 

Then that started dropping speeds , massive latency, was basically unuseable. TP Link RMA'd it for the same router, and that was exactly the same problems.  I was messing about with settings trying different things the other day, and it was stable again for a short time, I enabled SRA and changed the bandwidth of the 5ghz but it just didn't last. 

 

The SH2 works fine. No issues at all apart from its not great for gaming.  So I am lost here.

Use the PPPoE settings I have shown. A password of BT is normally needed.

OK well I changed it to that login, it still connects, and the problem is still very much there.

 

The DSL connection never drops, but there is a massive latency now and again. If I ping the router, I get good latency then for one reading will be thousands of miliseconds, then it goes back to the normal low ping. 

 

I do not get this at all with the SH2. 


I've tried everything in the settings, nothing makes a difference.

as your connection is working perfectly well using the SH2 then your problem is with the TPLINK router.  have you tried the tplink community and see if anyone there has had the problem and solved it?

Yes , there is an option to update from the router admin page, says using latest firmware, but I flashed the latest from the site just in case.
