FTTP installation
open Reach been today to install my broadband. This is the second time they have been. The first time they said they couldn’t install it, this time they came at 11am and my appointment slot was 1pm till 6pm so no one was at home and they had to come back. My smart hub is in my living room because it is connected via cable to my BTTV box. The engineer said that we would have to buy a cable to go from the new fibre socket to the hub or move the hub to the front of the house where the new fibre socket is going to go. We can’t move the hub because it connected to our TV box. Shouldn’t BT be supplying a cable to connect the full fibre to a smart hub?

Re: FTTP installation
So basically the Engineer, which I’m guessing is a Contractor didn’t want to run any cabling to where you actually wanted the ONT and Router.
I’ve heard rumours that Contractors are now telling Subs that Openreach only provide them with 5m Inside/Out Lead In’s. A bit like the old days of Managed Installs where they claimed Openreach wouldn’t supply them with Cat5 Cable to make up Ethernets for Data Extension Sockets.

Re: FTTP installation
One other point that the technician may have not considered - is there an electricity socket near where the ONT is to be installed, as it needs a power supply?

Re: FTTP installation
BT will supply you an Ethernet cable but it will only be about 1 meter long if that. If you want the BT Smarthub a distance away from the Openreach Modem (ONT) it is your responsibility to supply your own Ethernet cable.
You could ask the installer if he can place the Openreach Modem (ONT) in your living room near to where you have your BT Smarthub but it will be up to the installer if that is possible.

Re: FTTP installation
When I had my Hub in the hall and bt tv box in the lounge I bought from BT, Miniconnectors which used the mains supply to carry the Internet connection from Hub to box. Worked well.
