FTTP

So I have been having a problem with my connection 900mb Fibre

I have been getting slow download speeds, I have read the boards and I know connections aren't throttled.

my problem is it keeps dropping in pattern to say 1mb 10mb 100mb

a lot of jitter in the connection, on each speed test it's connecting to different areas of the country, feels like it has something to do with traffic shaping.

So when BT carry out speed test on the hub( I use ax11000) it shows i'm getting right speeds

Openreach engineer came this morning double checked everything with wires/ONT/hub - all equipment works fine.

He also experienced the slow speeds I'm getting so reported back to BT - but when I have contacted BT they don't understand what's happening 😞

How do I go about this?

Re: FTTP

Hi @f00xy87

First off, when you say you're getting slow download speeds, is this with device connected via WiFi, or directly via an ethernet cable?  Only the latter is going to be in any way guaranteed by an ISP.

Also, you say

on each speed test it's connecting to different areas of the country

- what speed test are you using?  I know Ookla (speedtest.net) will choose one of multiple servers - but you can force it to a server of your choosing, which can be useful for consistency.  Most people, I would say, now use fast.com.

And finally, you say "I use ax11000" - I'm not familiar with this, is it a 3rd party router?

Re: FTTP

Yes, so connected directly through Ethernet to Hub.

Ran a Speedtest Ethernet > ONT

did use both fast.com and Speedtest same results in terms of speed.

yes it’s a 3rd party router Asus Rog ax11000. I also got same results on both routers

Re: FTTP

Okay, you mention that speed seems to drop to 1/10/100 Mbps - this could be indicative of a faulty ethernet cable or socket on one of the devices - can you try a different cable?

Also, to rule out an issue with the Asus router you could connect a laptop directly to the ONT and set up a PPPoE internet connection:

username: bthomehub@btbroadband.com
password: BT (can actually be anything)

Re: FTTP

I’ve tried different ethernet cables.

I’ve tried PppoE connection.

Openreach engineer has also attended and checked all hardwares. They said it was a fault on BT end and would report back.

but since speaking with BT again they don’t understand.

I don’t know if it’s miscommunication or not, but, all they can understand, there’s not a fault with devices my end, and when they run a speed test to the hub it’s showing the correct speeds.

im in the middle with slow speeds
