Fibre Activation

So I've had an engineer out on the 28th of October to setup my fibre. He came did the install but said there was a fault on BT's side and they'll need to sort something to get it active.

I received an update a few days later to say it wouldn't be up and running until the 14th of November (today) I've just received ANOTHER message this afternoon saying the line won't be up and running until the 14th of DECEMBER!! This is 47 days after the initial hardware setup!!

I work from home and this is getting beyond a joke now, I've tried to contact BT but to no avail and I'm not really sure where to turn. I expected this all to be done and dusted in October but will now be sat waiting until mid-December. Why tell me I can upgrade to fibre, come and set everything up to then just leave me in the lurch for 2 month!!

Re: Fibre Activation

What lights are lit on the ONT ?, has ( or did your address in the past ) have access to copper pair broadband like ADSL or FTTC/VDSL  or is it a new or newish build and only have FTTP access ?, have you just moved into the address , or have you been there awhile, either with no broadband, broadband from a non Openreach provider , or an OR based provider using copper ( that sort of answers the second question )

It sounds like that although Openreach have provided what is necessary to get you connected to the headend ( OLT ) this can be verified if the PON light is lit and steady ( not flashing ) , but the cable links to connect the OLT to your ISP equipment have yet to be provided, or some other ( but similar ) issue with the OLT ….if the address has access to copper pair broadband, you could ask if you could be connected to that until the 14th December, but if the FTTP service is the only option, short of using a different network ( if one is available ) you may have no choice but to wait …it’s obviously unfortunate, but if the date given was 14th Dec from the outset would you have made a different choice ?

Re: Fibre Activation

So the LOS light is red, it’s not getting any connection at all at the moment.

We've still got the old ADSL line in, we moved into this property in April, I opted to upgrade to full fibre because the old line speed at this property barely gets above 25mbps and myself and my partner both work from home and it’s difficult at times with such slow speeds. The previous property had a 100+ so when we moved I was paying the price of 100+ but actually getting 25 because it’s not capable of getting any faster here and my contract price didn’t change from one property to the other since I was in contract. As soon as we got the letter through that fibre was ready in our area I snapped it up as my contract was due for renewal.

The timescales are more irritating and inconvenient because it keeps getting pushed further back each time I get an update and we are currently struggling through with internet that can’t handle 2 people being on a video call at the same time to the point where I get faster speeds tethered to my phone and often have to!
