The vast majority of FTTP installations are from the same telegraph pole, or if underground service , from the same side of the property as the existing copper pair service is delivered, so if you currently get your existing service from a telegraph pole then the new FTTP service will come from that too ( but via a new optical cable ) ,
Within reason the new service can be installed where you want it , but if you have service coming in at the front and want the new service at the back that may not be considered…..the cable from outside is terminated on a box on the external wall and another optical cable ( one designed for internal use ) is ran to the ONT location, the ONT location needs to be near a power outlet ( because it works off the mains ).
If you don’t want the router near the ONT , you can install or arrange a cable to be installed yourself that allows the router to be sited in a different area to the ONT , but when the service is first installed the router will have to be close enough to the ONT to be connected with a short Ethernet cable.
The router obviously also needs power so it’s a double power socket that’s normally required for the ONT and router , although obviously if you used an power extension lead that would work, it just wouldn’t be very tidy.
