Re: Games only lag during the day.

Will this affect my PS5 though? As it’s connected to the tp link adapter? also, is any channel recommended over the others?

I’m not familiar with the PS5 as I’m not a gamer, but if the Q box is using channel 36 and that is clashing with the PS5 then your alternatives on 5GHz are channels 40, 44 and 48.

There are channels above this but 1)  the Smart Hub 2 doesn’t offer them, (if that's what you're using for the W-Fi ... you've never said), and 2) they are subject to restrictions like DFS, as they may clash with radar, so I wouldn’t recommend them anyway.

Edit: Judging by the rest of the thread, I'm assuming the TP-Link is just a powerline adapter.  Is it powerline with a built-in wireless access point?  If so, you’ll need to get the manual out and see how to change channel on the TP-Link.

The channel is set by the Wi-Fi access point, and the other devices just lock on to whatever is being offered by that access point.

About the TP Link adapter, to be honest i’m not sure about the built in wireless access point. All i do it pair 2 adapters and then move one next to the router and plug in to the router by ethernet cable, and the same the other side but for the ps5.

And yes i have a BT Smart Hub 2.

So you are not using any WiFi capability of the adapters, you connect your PS5 to the adapter by Ethernet.

If that is the case, changing WiFi channels won't have any affect. The Sky box is somehow inducing interference into your mains wiring. Did you try swapping the Sky boxes around? It could be one has gone faulty.

I don’t think so, what the setup is > Router plugged into primary adapter using ethernet cable downstairs > Primary adapter paired with the secondary adapter > Secondary adapter plugged into ps5 with ethernet cable upstairs.

I will try this when i am home and see if it’s a fault Sky Box and get back to you.

In that case, forget everything we've said about Wi-Fi, as it's not using Wi-Fi.  What it is is a jury-rigged, ethernet wired connection.

Powerline adapters are notoriously flaky and the problem with the Q box will be that it is feeding interference into the mains supply and that's disrupting the powerline adapters.  It's power supply unit is probably failing.  (It could also be a loose connection in the extension lead/plug.  Possibly even in the wall socket).

You're back to process of elimination again.  I suggest you start by swapping the power units for the Q boxes over.

TimmyBGood's reply on Sky is interesting.

(Edit:  I see Licquorice has beaten me to it again, as usual).

Re: Games only lag during the day.

I was a bit confused when this was happening to be honest because i’ve had TP Link adapters for as long as i can remember and been with BT A WHILE, and they have always been amazing, so i knew it was either a PS5 hardware issue, or something in the house was causing it.

When you say swapping the power units over, could i just simply swap over the sky q mini boxes with another one along with the cables? Or is there something else you mean?

Edit: Not sure if you will see this edit, but i tried my PS5 earlier with the tv on and extension lead plugged in and sky box NOT plugged in and the ping in games was stable 7 - 10 ping. Therefore probably means, extension lead = fine, power socket = fine and TV also not the issue.

I'm not familiar with the Q box but I'm assuming it has a separate plug-in power unit, like most devices today.  If the power unit is built into the box, then all you can do is try another box.

are you connected via wifi straight to the router these wifi extenders if you using on in your setup n you ps5 is connecting to that can lead to a higher ping

setup PS5 With LAN Cable  use ethernet cable as a search term in your favourite shoppimg site

this maybe unstable wifi leading to a higher ping or just server is poo this may or may not work

Yeah i’m guessing it’s in the box, because it’s literally a plug and a cable and that’s it, so i’ll try this and let you know what happens.
