Remove master socket and replace with ONT

Good Evening,  I am due to have FTTP installed in a couple of weeks. I have little space where I want the fibre to enter the premises. It already has a master socket. As I have deselected phoneline when placing order,  will it be possible for the openreach engineer to remove the master socket and install the ONT in its place?

Probably, ask him when he arrives.

Wouldn't matter whether you had a phone line or not, the master socket wouldn't be required as telephony would be supplied via Digital Voice.

Re: Remove master socket and replace with ONT

One of my neighbours managed to have the fibre fed through the conduit to the master socket that had been put in place when the house was built - no drilling or anything.  I would have liked the same, but it wasn't possible despite trying.  Hats off to the engineer for an impeccable job though!

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!

Re: Remove master socket and replace with ONT

Yes - it is possible as long as you know you don't have a landline phone, or will have Digital Voice going forward. Some people live in areas where DV is not yet available so need to keep their old copper cable and socket if they want to keep a phone.

The location needs to be within a short distance of a power socket.

However you will be warned that, if the installation fails for some reason at the final stage (e.g. a network configuration problem) you might be left without service as they won't have time to reinstate your copper line. You are taking a risk.

Finally your installer might be more ameniable if you offer to remove leftover interior copper cable yourself - I don't think that task is included in their time allowance.
