Re: Smart Hub 3

I phoned saying I wanted to renew - after the call handler went to the escalations team the answer was a flat no.

But i could ‘have everything i currently have at the same  price’ by moving to EE - presumably with their WiFi 6 router.

Just another example of BT doing everything in their power to stop you getting a price reduction on renewal.

i didn’t want to move to EE yet until it eventually happens next year or later so just insisted that i wanted it the hub 3 or would leave

otherwise just get one from Ebay if they don’t give you one

Re: Smart Hub 3

Unbelieveable. Just checked the 'BT to EE' offers. Yes - you get £6 off a month for an equivalent plan but, and it's a BIG but, you have to 'Keep your current Smart Hub and WiFi Extender'!

So, no EE hardware benefits for you if you have the temerity of wanting to save a few quid on renewal. You will be an EE customer stuck with your out of date BT hardware for another 2 years.

@busybee3

You say that "I didn’t want to move to EE yet until it eventually happens next year or later".  In case you're not aware, BT stopped their programme of automatically migrating existing customers from BT to EE. They've decided to retain the BT name as a consumer brand, so you can stay with them for as long as you wish. Anyone wishing to move to EE now has to proactively request a migration.

Re: Smart Hub 3

@andydenyer  BT may well have abandoned a policy of actively forcing migration to EE but there are enough posts on this forum that indicate that BT customers are allegedly robustly encouraged to accept migration to EE by ‘enthusiastic’ BT/EE call centre staff.

As for routers being purchased via eBay, it should be made perfectly aware that many of the BT/EE routers offered for sale will undoubtedly be knock offs, equipment being sold illegally that should have been returned by customers, stolen/intercepted items already posted back to BT as returned equipment or equipment that has been nicked from customers doorsteps that have been left by whoever delivered it. It’s amazing how folks purchasing ethics seemingly exit the window when they’re looking for a solution to a problem.

@Kimberlin

Oh, yes, I know they might still be actively encouraging people to switch (although I haven't experienced that myself in my recent dealings with them). But you still have to agree to it now rather than it being imposed, which was the case a couple of years ago.

I assume your comment on buying routers off of eBay wasn't directed at me but in response to other comments in this thread as I didn't make any reference to that.

Re: Smart Hub 3

@andydenyer  Yes, sorry, the eBay reference was about previous posts earlier in the thread so please don’t take offence about me mentioning it. I admit I also mentioned about purchasing routers off eBay, but it’s of course entirely down to an individual what they choose to do. I’m merely pointing out that many of these routers have undoubtedly come from dubious sources.

Agreed, folks have to agree to a migration to EE, but, as we are all too well aware, some people are clearly not strong enough to stand up to the tactics of online sales staff, this is why there are often comments about the perceived bullying into contracts customers might otherwise have not entered into.
