Upgraded to Full Fibre 500

Hi, so I recently upgraded from my ancient BT broadband which worked fine, to Full Fibre 500. My new broadband is running slower than my old broadband. I spoke to BT customer service who said they will run tests and all will be fine now it's fixed.

I just tested my download speed and it barley went up, its testing at 49Mbps and uploading at 40Mbps. My new full fibre contract states "Your normal available download speed will be 500 Mbps - Your minimum guaranteed download speed will be 425 Mbps" Am I missing something? Is 49mbps decent for a family of 4? Should I be complaining to BT or is this the norm with broadband speeds?

Any advise appreciated would be appreciated, I'm not technically minded and feel BT are taking advantage!

🙂

Re: Upgraded to Full Fibre 500

How are you testing the speed , wirelessly or using a wired device ? , wireless speeds are not a good indicator if the connection is OK or not .
There is a ‘proper’ BTwholesale speed tester that tests the speed at the ONT ( so isn’t testing the speed from the ONT to your devices ) this is the true measurement as it’s measuring what Openreach are responsible for and not things beyond their control ….if you haven’t done this yet , do this proper test and post the results.
It’s not unheard of , on new installs, for the performance to be below expectations, possibly a high loss splice at the CSP , possibly the wrong speed provisioned ( although that’s unlikely given your symptoms ) but it’s unknown if there is an issue , or it’s just an issue with the way you are measuring speed , until you do the BTw speed test we can’t know for sure.
