horrible internet connection

I've had this problem for going on 2 years. Anything we try isn't working and there is no other provider so switching isn't an option.

Our internet is so slow, we have really bad packet loss and jitter, ping is really high trying to play any online game is virtually impossible and a waste of time. Loading a google web page takes an eternity everything is so slow when watching the TV on a channel that requires internet such as sky sports the picture quality is always blurry and steaming has lots of buffering and is also a waste of time.

We have all been using our 4/5G on our phones as the internet is so poor that its not even worth using I've tried contacting bt many times to be told its good and there are no issues we've had multiple engineers out who seem to fix some of the issues for only a small amount of time 2/3 weeks at best and it goes back to how it was.

I have no idea what to do we arent getting fibre anytime in the near future and we are paying so much it feels like a total scam and i have no idea what to try to make it better as it wasn't always like this.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Re: horrible internet connection

There isnt an area anywhere at all where BT is the only choice of provider , if you have an Openreach connection, then there are dozens of alternatives to BT , if you suspect it’s the Openreach ‘line’ rather than the ISP , then obviously the underlying problem ( if there is one ) will remain if you change ISP , but it’s wrong to think you have to use BT , you don’t .

Obviously if you are on a very long line , then performance isn’t going to be great ( from a speed point of view ) but if the line has a fault , then it should be repaired,  post your router advanced connection statistics, that will give an indication if you line is performing to it’s potential or not .

Re: horrible internet connection

According to dslchecker results you best connection is 25mb down and 1.7mb up and probably actual is below that.  There is no fibre to the home available just fibre to cabinet and copper to your home

Posting current router stat would help

Re: horrible internet connection

We had a bt engineer out today and he said we are right on the edge of the reach of the cabinet so he said it won’t ever be good

Re: horrible internet connection

You can see your predicted speed,  17-25Mb , that puts your line length 1300-1700 metres from the cabinet, so your speed is not going to be great , that’s just physics , long line slow speed ( when  it comes to FTTC  ) …..the speed you get should be fine for VOD HD TV ( provided nothing much else using the bandwidth at the same time ) , 4K UHD is not really feasible, however you may not be getting the predicted speed if the line has an underlying problem….you need to post your router connection statistics to give an idea if you line is connecting around this predicted speed or is underperforming.
