How to switch from BT Mobile to EE??

Go to solution

Could someone help  (in plain English) me make the transfer from BT mobile to EE  [I was forced to switch by BT when I renewed my broadband and mobile subscription]?  Where things stand:

  • I have a ready to install EE nano SIM card into my Android (Samsung) phone
  • EE has the PAC code BT provided  [and I have already been charged by EE for new account]
  • I was told switch would have to take place before January 8th and this is where I am confused:  shall I receive an email to ask me to insert EE SIM Card??  or should I simply go ahead and do the sim card switch now??

Elderly and disabled I would appreciate some help..

Thank you

put the new EE sim card into your phone and check it works  if EE has PAC code then number should transfer

Re: How to switch from BT Mobile to EE??

thanks for swift response. I have  switched SIM cards and received the following  SMS from EE:

"Hi and welcome to EE. It's great to have you on board. Just turn your phone off and on again then you're good to go. And for any help: ee.co.uk/get started"

BUT I can only see an EE mobile number:  my BT one has not yet been transferred.  How long will this take  [and yes, I have turned phone off and on again..

I am concerned this delay is going to affect my linked lap top which I use to control phone as I have severe hand arthritis.

Re: How to switch from BT Mobile to EE??

Based on my own experience.

I can still see the original SIM card number on my phone now, one year after changing from BT to EE but my actual phone number, the one to which my phone reponds, is the one I ported over.

I have been advised that I can change this by editing the number stored on the SIM card using an iPhone but I have never tried it as my phone responds normally to my original number.

If you have access to another phone then I suggest you try calling the number you recently ported over to see if it works.

Regardless, I doubt that the phone number will affect the link to your PC as they communicate using Bluetooth not the mobile network and therefore not the SIM

@Papageno

I made a similar move, but from Plusnet Mobile to EE about 2 years ago. This was the procedure that I was advised to follow, which worked well for me to minimise the "downtime" with no service:

1.) When the new EE SIM card is received, switch off the phone, remove the BT SIM, insert the EE SIM and restart the phone.

2.) Let the new EE SIM register on the network, (I can't remember exactly how I could tell, but it was obvious). The EE SIM has now been activated with EE, (albeit with a different number), and will trigger the number porting process.

3.) Switch off the phone again replace the EE SIM with the old BT SIM and restart the phone.

4.) Continue to use the BT SIM as normal until you lose service.

5.) Once you have lost service with BT, switch off the phone and replace the BT SIM with the EE one and restart .

6.) Once the phone has fully booted, you should be on the EE network and with your old ported number. Confirm this by making a call to another phone that has a display, (the call does not need to be answered).

Re: How to switch from BT Mobile to EE??

First of all, many thanks to all those who have given their time to help me.

This is what happened:

  • on Jan 06 evening:  email from BT stating:

    Stopping your services

You've asked us to cancel some services at:  …

As you're moving your mobile service to EE, we'll stop your BT Mobile soon. You've chosen to move your mobile service to EE.

    What's stopping

    • Mobile number XXXXXXXXX

     You'll also lose:   YYYYY

  • Sleepless night...
  • Jan 07 woke up early to act upon the news of my losing mobile number.  Booted laptop [which has smartphone as start up application] to discover 2 SMS messages: one from BT to confirm transfer of phone number, other from EE to confirm receipt...

I still would like some explanation of why BT has been sending very unfriendly emails about provider switch when I was forced  [at gun point so to speak] to switch to EE.  One email also says "sorry to see you go. We hope you will be back".

I am also considering campaigning for a new category in the paralympics:  Hand subluxation [acute form of arthritis] victims taking part in smartphone Sim card insertions, three separate runs for Nano,  Micro and Medium.😃
