2 men in black with BT IDs claimed we would get BT full fibre

I can't remember the exact time it was so that could have been a couple of weeks give or take.

So around January or February 2 men in black (I'm not joking) with BT photo IDs called at our flat. They were telling that we will get BT Fibre Broadband for our tower block and asked which provider we had. Oh, cool, we are with BT and they said great and left for the next door.

We heard nothing for weeks then 2 or 3 weeks ago 2 different men in black with BT photo IDs stood in front of my door and told me that the work is currently done in our tower block to replace the copper wiring and we will have a 10 minute outage when they switch over (never happened). Also at some point they would need access to our flat and I would receive a letter or email telling me about the date and I should receive it within the next few days.

Guess what nothing since. Also I have not seen a single Openreach van outside, unless they are now all of a sudden plain white. Because there were a few white one parked outside around that time.

I have checked with Openreach and there aren't any imminent plans to upgrade our tower block/postcode area.

I have checked with our landlord (social housing) and they don't have a clue either.

So my question is, are they actually BT representatives or scammers? I have enough to deal with charities annoying me in the middle of dinner, I don't need those as well.

To be honest they looked more like Mormons going from door to door and not sales people. Or I was just transported into a sequel of Men in Black. I was waiting for them to use the Neuralyzer on me. 🤣

Anyone else had cold callers or scammers??

All Openreach Vans Have The Logos, And the Livery On The Vans, and a stripes on the back,

You should ask in the future, Come up to show ID’s.

Hope that helps.

Effort doesn't sound legit, any door to do sales people would be in EE uniforms and Openreach don't go door to door like that in my experience. Also the Mormons although coming in pairs wear suits and have badge and effort wouldnt be talking about broadband lol

Funny thing, ever since I installed a video camera doorbell, literally no one, and I do mean no one, bothers knocking the door any more unless it's a parcel delivery or an election canvasser. You'll find that folks who are peddling garbage or are up to no good don't really very much like being captured on door bell cameras or CCTV systems.
