Broadband at 2nd property

Hello my daughter is about to get her own rental tenancy with a local authority. But there is abit of an issue due to her age as she turns 17 years old this November (2024) and majority of companies only accept new customers at the minimum age of 18 years (for identity check via credit check) so I am asking with myself already currently a customer of BT's (essential Broadband & phone) can I add a second broadband only to my account for a second property address if my daughter is declined her own account.

Thanks in advance for any help/advise given.

It would be much the same if you had another property, like a holiday rental. You would be the account holder.

Because BT consumer are migrating customers to EE, one of the other companies in the BT Group, there may be complications, so I have asked one of the moderators to post advice here, on the best way to go about this.

Given BT's exceptional ability for screwing things up, I'd suggest using another ISP for your daughter to keep things entirely separate. Otherwise I can see your service being cut off the day hers goes live...

I don’t see that as a real concern , if you ordered a separate service at her address , in your name , without referring to your existing service at your address then that would be no different to ordering with a completely different supplier …if your intention is to have both ‘lines’ on a single account, so you only pay 1 direct debit that covers both services, I would also tread carefully, but ordering in you name at a second address with no connection to your existing address and account should be problem free

Welcome to the community.

The advice you've been given is spot on, you can take out a separate contract for your daughter's property, but as @iniltous mentioned it is best to keep it separate from your account to avoid any confusion.

You can still take a plan on BT as shown on the website.

Getting a 2nd account at a new address in your existing account's name should indeed be trouble free, but I concur with the previous poster who advises maybe using a different ISP. 

BT/EE do have an amazing ability for screwing things up completely and I believe that there is a real chance that the first account will lose service as soon as the new account is active, as BT is quite likely to interpet this issue as a move of address instead of adding another account.

It’s probably your ‘jaded’ view of BT that makes you believe there is a real chance of a screw up , but how woukd this happen  ? , if the OP calls and in effect signs up as a brand new customer, how do ‘BT’ somehow find out they already have an account somewhere else , if the OP doesn’t mention their existing line at another address , BT can’t possibly know that , even if they called  ( instead of ordering online ) and the CLI was their existing line and that CLI brings up the existing account data , when the  option ‘ is this the account you want to discuss’ you reply No, or call from a line with no CLI or a line not associated with BT , or better than that , on-line ……obviously some posters have had poor or terrible service, hence their invariably negative comments, but it seems odd to me that , presumably they are ‘ex’ customers because of this substandard service, but continue to post here …..most customers have good service, that’s always been my experience, a poor experience is the exception not the rule , it’s the recipient’s of poor service that are motivated to post their tales of woe , not the satisfied customer, but they are not the majority
