Cancelling broadband

I am attempting to cancel broadband. I have just started the monthly rolling contract and I'm already up and running with my new provider. When speaking to BT they tell me I can't cancel as I already have an open order in place, I recently cancelled my TV package. This will end on the 5th December. They said I should call back on the 5th to cancel to broadband and that even that would take a week to process, extending my bill to about the 12th January!!

I'm gobsmacked that BT can't have more than one cancellation on the system at once for a customer.

Please can a BT admin explain what the heck is this all about, it makes no sense at all

Thanks

Re: Cancelling broadband

It has always been the case with BT you can only have 1 open order on your account at one time

why did you not follow the OFCOM system and just place order with your new provider who then notify your existing ISP that they are taking over the line.  you then get email from BT saying sorry leaving and your broadband will be cancelled
