Cancelling contract

Go to solution

Hi

i just cancelled my mum’s contract for landline only. She has dementia and is going into a care home tomorrow after 3 weeks in hospital. No mention of and cancellation fees incurred (which I’ve read about on here before) but they want 30 days ‘notice period’ so I’m now going to have to pay another bill at the end of September for a line she won’t use in a flat that is empty. This seems somewhat excessive - surely in the digital/technological world we now inhabit it doesn’t take 30 days to  shut down a line!

The  standard 30 day cancellation time is inline with BT's Terms and Conditions.

The 30 days also prevents mistakes, if a 3rd party (friend or family member) cease an account, it must have the full 30 days notice, so that any confirmation is sent by letter and email to the account holder.

Imagine if someone ceased your account without you knowing and it happened instantly, there's no way to reverse it, with 30 days notice you'd be informed and can correct mistakes.
