Changin from sky to bt

I am quite unsure of the process of how to change broadband providers as my contract with sky expires this month and I want to change from them to bt but how does this happen do I contact sky or do I just place an order for a package from bt and they will come in my house and change the internet wires because I am thinking of buying the fibre 1 package for 29.99 but will they come in and change the wire or what is going to happen

@User2998

Welcome to this user forum for BT Retail phone and broadband customers.

Just place your order with BT, and they will inform Sky that they are taking over your service. Do not contact Sky to cancel, as that will delay any changeover.

Be aware that if you take a satellite TV feed from Sky, this will still continue, as that is not affected by any change of broadband, and you will have to contact Sky to cancel that yourself.

If your Sky broadband is delivered over a copper wire, then nothing will change, apart from a new BT hub which will be supplied.

Re: Changin from sky to bt

How do I know if it is copper wire or satellite? How would there be no change as my current sky does about 35 Mb but BT says they with the fibre 1 they can do 47Mb guaranteed  would they not need to like change the wire that is plugged into the router for a bette one?

Re: Changin from sky to bt

If you have a Sky satellite dish on your house, and have Sky TV, then its likely its being used, and would have nothing to do with broadband.

Its Openreach that provide the external network, and they would not change any cabling from the cabinet to your house.

Its possible that BT can offer a better speed than Sky, because of an extensive core network, and possibly a better router.

To see the expected speed range,

Use the address checker on the page below, and post the results, but edit out your address details first.

Re: Changin from sky to bt

There is no satellite broadband from Sky, so it will either be copper (FTTC) or Full Fibre (FTTP). From the figures you've mentioned I can only guess that you are currently on the lowest speed package with a theoretical maximum of 40Mb. So assuming that your line quality & distance from the cabinet allows, you can opt for the next speed up, as you have. This is a simple line configuration & you will not need or receive an engineer visit.

Although if you have a telephone service that will likely mean moving to Digital Voice.

Edit: Sky seem to call their lowest package Superfast 35, is that what you're on?

@rbz5416

I did not realise Sky had shut down their satellite service, as there are plenty of dishes still around here, probably no longer in use now.

@Keith_Beddoe

They haven't. I was saying to @User2998 that Sky don't use satellite for broadband, as he/she seemed to be implying they might.

I think so but I am paying 50 quid for 30 Mb and this fibre 1 deal is cheese and more download

Re: Changin from sky to bt

I see, I had assumed that the reference to Satellite Broadband was just a misunderstanding. @User2998  could still have TV delivered over a dish, and that would continue.
