My contract ends in 36 days and i need to cancel my broadband service as i am been charged £42 a month even though i hear adverts on the radio at £28. I am in charity housing and the price in a cost of greed crisis is just an insult. I am going to move to Plusnet at £25 a month but the message us button never appears for me to chat with anyone.
I will sign up to Plusnet later today for my service to start on the last day of my BT contract (in 36 days) but what do i have to do here to avoid any more obscene charges?
Thank you for any help.

Good Morning!
thank you for your post today 😊
If Plusnet do a working line takeover on your active existing live with BT your services will automatically be cancelled on the same day as the activation day of a plusnet this is done my an engineer from the cabinet or remotely if your a Full Fibre Customer.
As long as plusnet do a working line takeover then BT will send you comms to inform you that your leaving and will try to keep you as a customer.
All this is automatically but no harm in contact plusnet or BT to confirm this.
Your Advice Of Transfer should appear on BT.com or on the My BT App as well
hope this helps 😊
Thank you so much for the reply. I wouldn't stay with BT as in a cost of greed crisis I feel that BT have taken advantage of the price that I am paying whilst i can hardly afford to buy groceries.
I will sign up to Plusnet later and hopefully everything will be fine bills wise. I cant afford another £42 bill.
One last question, should i start my new service with Plusnet the day my BT contract ends or should it be a day before to avoid moving into the next billing period? I really cant afford more £42 charges.
Thank you again for the replies.

Unfortunate as it is BT will be charging you what you've agreed to & not "taking advantage"
FWIW do you qualify for home essentials? - BT Home Essentials Broadband | Universal Credit Broadband
I hear on the radio every single day many times over a price £15 pounds a month cheaper than what I am paying. I cant stay with BT, its a cost of greed crisis and although the contract as you say will have been agreed to, it is an absolute rip off. I am in charity housing and cant afford my bills and food and every day on the radio, over and over I am reminded that my bank account is getting dipped more than other customers. I don't qualify for any help but thanks for the link.
The only question i need answering at this point is, should my new service start on the last day of contract or the day before the last day of contract to avoid an extra massive £42 bill.
Again, thanks for your help, much love.
Gary
The switch date will have no bearing on monthly bills, bills are still ptoduced for a month in advance in full while services are active then credits on final bills if paid past end date on last bill.
So should i start my new service on the last day of my BT service or start the new service the day before the last day of my BT service to avoid an uncontracted months charge?
I'm thinking its the day before but will that then have an early termination charge applied?
I really am skint and need to avoid extra charges as I look to get onto a fairly priced service. I have no shopping money and an extra charge will mean no shopping money for another month.
If you don't know the answer then hopefully someone else will post up the correct info for me.
Thanks again.
Gary
Short answer is nobody knows, purely depends on end date & when your bills produced, I personally don't think you'll be able to avoid what you're looking for with how it works tbh
have you checked the link for BT home essential and see if you qualify
as posted you pay monthly in advance so when within a month of contract end date then place order with plusnet - you should not have to contact BT - and plusnet will do the rest
I just want my service to end on the contract end date without a charge rolled into the next month. There must be a correct way to do this without picking up extra charges.
Do support staff browse this forum and help with support? Someone must know and it shouldn't be kept a secret to obtain more money, there must be a correct way, I just need to know what it is.
Thanks for the reply, maybe someone will post and we will both learn something.
