just out of interest if I call 0330 123 4150 which option do you suggest choosing and will I get India or a UK call centre?

The line stats show that it the OP's line can obtain that speed and if it is a guarantee then it must be honoured or the customer can leave the contract without penalty so I think you are off the mark with your assertion.

BT do not have any Indian call centres. They were all moved back to the UK some years ago.

Thanks sorry one final question - if we live in an area with good mobile service and have no connected alarms etc to the landline is there any downside to ditching the landline as I switch to EE?
