Ordered BT Fibre 500 package.

Hi folks,

Just ordered BT full fibre 500 package and due to go live on 26 October.

A brief history, I am coming from Talktalk and have full fibre installed the ONT on wall etc. So according to the BT Rep it's just a case of receiving the BT Hub and setting up around the 26 October.

In 2020 I was on a DSL package with Talktalk, the area was cabled for full fibre and I was offered a free trial of a 110 mbits package while still keeping my old DSL with landline as a backup.

All well and good using full fibre until I asked to upgrade officially to their 150 down package in July of this year.

So much hassle since, still on trial speed, being told that the new package was live and other departments at Talktalk telling me it was cancelled, still the old DSL package  on my account with them, and both problems seemingly unable to be resolved.

An Openreach engineer was out and says everything, looks good from the Openreach end.

I have had enough with Talktalk, I believe they have put a cease on my account, last day officially with them is officially to be the 10 Nov, if they even manage to get that right.

I have signed up to BT for Broadband  only, no landline.

A few questions if that is ok.

1 Is there any way that this trial of full fibre with Talktalk can somehow mess up my migration to BT?
2 is it possible that Talktalk fibre can still work on the same ONT even after I have migrated to BT, just curious about this.

3 I believe the migration happens around midnight onwards as go live day is 26 October, does this mean that the migration won't actually be live until the 27 October?

4 If I still see the Talktalk router working does this mean that the migration to BT is not successful and I am still with Talktalk on 27 October?

Many thanks for any advice.

Joe.

3 I believe the migration happens around midnight onwards as go live day is 26 October, does this mean that the migration won't actually be live until the 27 October? No. It can go live at any time on the day of activation. ie from 00.01hrs on 26th till 23.59hrs on 26th.

4 If I still see the Talktalk router working does this mean that the migration to BT is not successful and I am still with Talktalk on 27 October? Yes if you can still access the TT router and it is still working on 27th. You should have install the BT router on the day of activation so that you can see if the BT package is working.

Many thanks for any advice.

Joe.

Re: Ordered BT Fibre 500 package.

The only potential problem could be if you have a cease in place with TT for the 10th Nov as well as a migration from TT to BT on the 26th October ,  2 orders can cause issues, hopefully the only TT activity on the 10th Nov will be to cease your copper pair telephony and won’t interfere with the TT to BT migration of FTTP .

Technically  ( if you have  the original Openreach 4 port ONT ) it can be possible to have two services simultaneously on one fibre, accessible via different ports of the ONT , but it’s likely that the TT service will simply be replaced by the BT service on the existing ONT port.
